Something Composted This Way Comes

booksApril 22 this year marks the 47th anniversary of the first Earth Day!  In celebration of this occasion, please join us for a series of environmental classes that promise to be nothing short of literary masterpieces (or at least educational and entertaining). All classes will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Center in the Game Room, and will run 1 to 1 ½ hours in length.

April 12: Something Composted This Way Comes

Learn tips for easy and pest-free food scrap composting!  Food scraps can make up to 25% of your trash. Composting your food scraps can be surprisingly simple, pest free and only takes 5 minutes of your time each week. In addition to backyard composting and worm composting, this class will emphasize simple, pest-free methods of composting food scraps. After attending the class, Davis residents can sign up to receive a starter set of composting worms for $5, and residents in single-family homes can receive a backyard compost bin for $10.

Davis residents who attend a class can enter to win prizes, including reusable shopping bags, food scrap collection pails, waterless car wash kits and worm castings. For more information or to register, please contact the Public Works Department at (530) 757-5686 or PWWeb@CityofDavis.org.
