How Downtown Portland Got Hot—and So, So Cool! Lessons for the Davis General Plan?

Don’t miss this talk on the Cinderella-like story of the transformation of Portland and ideas that might help Downtown Davis capture the same vitality and quality of life. The talk will be by Robert Liberty, former head of the internationally known civic group “Thousand Friends of Oregon” who helped in the transformation of Portland.

This city co-sponsored talk complements the kickoff of the process to update the Core Area Specific Plan for Downtown Davis—a key part of the General Plan. It is organized by the Davis Futures Forum.

Robert Liberty is currently Director of the Urban Sustainability Accelerator at Portland State University.   He served as Director of Thousand Friends of Oregon, then a local elected official. He has played a major role in making Portland what it is today: a hotbed of economic activity and a great place to live.

This event is part of the Davis Futures Forum, series, a university-city-community collaboration that has brought world-class urban planners to Davis.  It is the fourth in the series that has so far included Joe Minicozzi, Chuck Mahron, and Daniel Parolek.
