Public Transit, Paratransit, and Rideshare Travel Training Workshop

The City of Davis and transportation partners are hosting a travel training workshop. Learn how to access local public transportation options, rideshare, or learn the basics of bicycling. This year, you can even sign up for one-on-one training. Focused on seniors and those with disabilities, but also open to the general public, the travel training event will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2017  from 9:00 a.m. to approximately 11:30 a.m. at the Davis Senior Center, 646 A Street (corner of A & 7th Streets).

Through this program, you can learn to travel to destinations like the movies, a favorite restaurant, shopping excursions, or important appointments with these transportation options.

“At any life stage, and whether due to injury or physical ailment, driving may no longer be an option. The value of this workshop is it helps participants understand their transportation options, enabling them to plan for life course changes or events that might limit their ability to drive themselves.” said Davis Mayor Robb Davis.

At the event, participants will select from one of four training sessions: Public Transit (facilitated by Unitrans and Yolobus), Paratransit (City of Davis Community Transit and Yolobus Special), Bicycling (City of Davis Bicycle/Pedestrian Program), and rideshare (Lyft). Also, representatives from Paratransit Inc., a Sacramento area non-profit, will be on hand providing information on free, door-to-door travel training services. Following the training sessions will be short supervised group activities intended to break the “fear barrier” of using these transportation services with demonstrations.

The travel training program aims to improve awareness, understanding, usage, and confidence in using local public transportation options or bicycling; forge new social connections; and more importantly, increase independence. The travel training workshop is held annually each Spring.
