On April 14, the City will be hosting a free compost and mulch give-away event on Faraday Avenue. This event is for Davis residents only, ID will be checked. Only one vehicle per household, return trips are not allowed. Compost and mulch will be available on a first-come first-served basis.
The event will begin at 9 AM and will continue until 2 PM or until the compost is gone.
Please note that vehicles will NOT be permitted to back up directly to the compost or mulch piles for loading. Vehicles will be directed to park along Faraday, then residents will be required to shuttle the compost and mulch from the piles to their vehicle. Residents must bring their own equipment (shovels, gunny sacks, wheel barrows, etc.) as none will be provided.
The compost for the event is being generously donated by Napa Recycling, who runs the compost facility in Zamora--the same compost facility that receives and processes all the organic material from Davis.
Compost is a soil amendment made from yard trimmings and other organic materials and is used to enrich existing soil. Napa Recycling compost is OMRI listed, CDFA approved and STA certified.
The mulch for the event will be provided by our City’s Urban Forestry Division. When they are pruning City trees, Urban Forestry staff use a chipping machine to create a wood chip mulch from the pruned limbs. These wood chips are used in parks and greenbelts all around the City to suppress weeds, conserve water and promote healthy landscapes. Urban Forestry staff will be providing some of these locally sourced wood chips for the giveaway event!
