12th Annual Davis Neighbors' Night Out

Davis Neighbors' Night Out is Sunday, October 15, 2017

Post Date:August 29, 2017 11:31 a.m.

The City of Davis, UC Davis and Associated Students of UC Davis, are planning the 12th annual Davis Neighbors’ Night Out on Sunday, October 15, 2017.

Davis Neighbors’ Night Out (DNNO) is a celebration of our community, initiated to encourage neighbors to get to know one another. Connected neighborhoods often make safer neighborhoods with residents looking out for one another.

Past DNNO Party Host, Lori Raineri, states “In an age of electronic communication and the anonymity that comes with it, Neighbors Night Out presents a special opportunity to get together face to face with one’s neighbors, and it is conveniently in everyone’s own neighborhood.  On Humboldt Avenue, we get together every year for Neighbors Night Out, and I am grateful to connect with new neighbors and reconnect with neighbors of long standing. Neighborliness is an important value to a functional community and a high quality of life.  We’re fortunate that the City supports neighborliness with events like Neighbors Night Out.”

Mayor Robb Davis is looking forward to the event, stating “The annual tradition of Neighbors Night Out provides an opportunity for neighbors to engage and communicate with each other in a relaxed and low key setting. We hope that neighborhoods throughout town will take advantage of this opportunity and use it for future community connectivity.”

The event is scheduled in October to include new or returning UC Davis students in their neighborhood festivities. Starting the academic year on a positive note can reduce the potential for misunderstandings or conflicts by opening lines of communication among all residents.

Neighbors, neighborhood associations, Neighborhood Watch liaisons, apartment complexes, and/or homeowner associations are encouraged to be a “Party Sponsor”. The Party Sponsor will take the lead in setting up an activity such as a potluck dinner, BBQ, dessert party, or ice cream social to give neighbors an opportunity to introduce themselves and exchange phone numbers for neighborhood watch lists or future neighborhood events. Last year 130 parties were held throughout Davis and it is estimated that 6000 people were planning to participate. Make sure to be a part of the fun!
