City Council Selects Mike Webb as Next City Manager
Current City Manager Dirk Brazil to Retire in January 2018
The Davis City Council expects to appoint Mike Webb as the next city manager, upon the retirement of current City Manager Dirk Brazil. Following closed session on October 10, 2017, Mayor Robb Davis reported out that the City Council voted 5-0 to authorize a contingent offer to Mr. Webb, subject to acceptance by Mr. Webb and formal approval at the October 17, 2017 Council meeting.
Mr. Webb was appointed director of Community Development & Sustainability in 2013, and for the last three years has held the concurrent role of assistant city manager, where in addition to other citywide projects, his responsibilities also include oversight of Public Works and Parks & Community Services.
“Mike has demonstrated a keen understanding of critical issues faced by the City,” said Mayor Robb Davis. “As assistant city manager, he has led critical initiatives related to housing, the update of the Core Area Specific and General Plans, and the renters’ ordinance. Mike has worked hard to communicate the City’s needs to the University as it engages its Long Range Development Plan. Mike knows Davis, is respected by community members across the spectrum of views, and is a good listener. We are fortunate to have a stellar internal candidate who is highly qualified for the role. The entire City Council is proud to offer him the position to be the next Davis city manager” stated Davis.
Vice Mayor Brett Lee added, “I am sorry that Dirk will no longer be our city manager; I believe he made very positive contributions to the city. I am looking forward, at our next City Council meeting, to be able to offer the current assistant city manager Mike Webb the position.”
Mr. Webb has served the Davis community for the last twenty years in key roles in community and economic development, and city management. Mike obtained his Master's Degree in Public Administration from the University of Southern California and his Bachelor of Science Degree from UC Davis in Environmental Policy Analysis and Planning. He is passionate about sound governance and leading by example. Mike and his wife Katie, a fellow UC Davis graduate and elementary school teacher, have two children, Patrick (11) and Emma (15).
“Davis has a rich tradition of being visionary and responsive to our residents, businesses, and community partners,” notes Mr. Webb. “I look forward to supporting the City Council in continuing to make Davis a great place to live, work, and play and to utilizing my extensive experience with the city to lead our very capable staff team. I am honored and excited to be considered for the position of city manager and appreciate the confidence of the City Council.”
Mike Webb would succeed City Manager Dirk Brazil, who last month, after three years at the helm of the City organization, announced his pending retirement.
