H Street Improvement Project – Detour Update
The H to F Street bike/pedestrian pathway will be re-opened as of Monday, 1/22/18. Due to the construction traffic on H Street, the Contractor and the City will keep the North ramp for the H Street tunnel closed. To assist with a safe crossing at H Street, a more visible crosswalk will be established on H Street at the south ramp to the tunnel. A fence will be set up along the west side of H Street for bike/ped traffic between this crosswalk and the H to F Street pathway. A crossing guard will be available during the morning and afternoon at this crosswalk to help negotiate the construction traffic. The fenced pathway will be narrow so cyclists are advised to walk bikes between the H to F Street Pathway and the crosswalk near the tunnel.
As a result of the pathway re-open, the detour that has been in place since the end of November will no longer be the main route for bike/pedestrian traffic. Therefore, the crossing guard will not be present at F Street and 11th Street starting 1/18/18.
The Contractor plans to begin construction work on the east side of F Street near the Davis Little League at the pathway entrance to improve the pathway connection. This work will include relocating the enhanced crosswalk push button, removing the concrete islands on the eastside of the street and improving the ramps to access the pathway. The construction is planned during Spring Break for DJUSD (3/26/18-3/30/18). The City will provide updates as the date gets closer.
