City Requests Community Feedback on Yard Material Pickups
In July 2016, the city introduced the organics collection program, a hybrid collection system of yard material piles and organics carts. Along with the weekly service of organics carts, the on-street collection of yard material piles was modified to once-a-month pickup for most of the year, with weekly pickup remaining during “leaf season” (mid-October to mid-December). Since the implementation of the organics program, city staff has received comments and feedback on the program operation.
Over the last several months, staff has been working with the Utility Rate Advisory Commission and the Natural Resources Commission on a study of the overall solid waste rates and service levels in the community. As part of this effort, the City is reaching out to residents for feedback on the organics collection program, focusing mainly on yard material collection information. This survey includes questions about organics carts and yard material pile pick-ups. We want to hear from you!
The survey is posted online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/COD_Yard_Material_Survey. and will be open from April 4, 2018 through May 4, 2018. Please fill out one survey per household.
The study is part of a regular review of utility rates. The overall goal of the study is to make sure the city’s solid waste program (1) meets the needs of customers, (2) charges rates that are fair, equitable, and sufficient to keep the program running, (3) meets bicycle and pedestrian safety goals, (4) meets City environmental goals, and (5) meets State regulations for stormwater quality and waste diversion.
