City Seeks Community Input for Russell Boulevard Green Street Demonstration Project
The City of Davis invites community members to provide input on a project to transform the Russell Boulevard frontage of City Hall with a green redesign. Project components include the conversion of nearly 11,000 square feet of turf into drought tolerant landscaping; seven new gardens and planters to capture stormwater; new permeable paved seating areas and walkways to filter stormwater; and a vegetated swale to control as well as filter water runoff.
Opportunities for input include:
- Thursday, June 14, 2018 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. for an open-house-style input session in the Community Chambers Conference Room and Patio Area, 23 Russell Boulevard.
- Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. at the Recreation and Park Commission meeting in Community Chambers, 23 Russell Boulevard.
- Saturday, July 14, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon at the City’s Farmers Market booth, Third and C Streets.
Showcasing the effectiveness and beauty of sustainable landscape design for the community, the project is meant to serve as a green street model. The City hopes that through installing signage the project will teach visitors and residents how to incorporate similar techniques within their own yards.
The project is partially funded by the California Natural Resources Agency’s Urban Rivers grant program, which is funded by 2014 Proposition 1 Water Bond, the program supports green infrastructure projects that conserve water; improve water quality; buffer climate change impacts; reduce greenhouse gas emissions; and restore as well as protect rivers, creeks and streams.
