Crime Analysis Unit

Meet Davis PD's Crime Analyst

CA Machado

Welcome! My name is Deanne Machado and I am the Crime Analyst for The Davis Police Department. I began my Crime Analysis career at DPD in May of 2008. My primary responsibility is to provide our Patrol Unit with information and intelligence related to: ongoing crime series, emerging crime trends, "hot spot" crime locations, and local offenders. Since all of this information changes frequently, my goal as Crime Analyst is to equip Patrol with the latest, quality intelligence available so they can efficiently prevent and reduce crime in Davis.

In addition to working with Patrol, I often work closely with Investigations creating lineups, charts, maps, and link analyses for court appearances, geo-tracking suspects, and aggregating property data for search warrants. Working with Administration, I provide analyses on specific units within the department, prepare reports and summaries for City Council agenda items, and occasionally respond to public records requests.

Educational Background

CA Machado graduated from The University of the Pacific's School of International Studies with a B.A. in International Relations and from UC Davis with an M.A. in Political Science.

What Crime Analysis Isn't

Importantly, Crime Analysis has nothing to do with the collection or review of evidence gathered from a crime scene! The Crime Analyst will rarely, if ever, go to a crime scene but does process facts surrounding crime: modus operandi (MO), time element, suspect intelligence, and spatial proximity to related events (if applicable).
