Cannery Park Project Public Input
Public Input
Engaging the community in the project proposal evolution is a critical component of the City review process. Below is a description of various opportunities that are available to the community to stay informed and to provide feedback:
Updated Plan Presentations
These meetings are designed to update the community on the plan evolutions and provide opportunity for Questions and Answers of the applicant and city staff. The presentations are available after the meetings under the "Documents" tab above. The Questions and Answers from these meetings are posted above. The City plans to hold these meetings periodically throughout the review process. See the "Upcoming Meetings" tab for the next Updated Plan Presentation. Future meetings are anticipated in the Spring and Summer of 2011 and will focus on topics such as: infrastructure planning, design guidelines and standards, and low impact development/sustainability measures.
Public Meetings at City Commissions
Topic-specific meetings are scheduled with city commissions at various points throughout the review to advance the discussions of specific plan components. All city commission meetings are open to the public and include opportunity for public comment at the discretion of the Commission Chair. Public meetings are not formal binding actions, but will help provide guidance to the project and recommendations to the City Council. See the "Upcoming Meetings" tab for the planned commission meetings and a description of the topics to be discussed.
Public Review of Environmental Documents
The City has not yet begun preparation of an Environmental Impact Report (EIR). It is anticipated that the City Council will be asked to provide direction on preparation of an EIR in the Spring of 2011. Once EIR preparation begins there will be various opportunities for formal public input on the document preparation. These include the "Scoping Session", a public meeting to gather input on the scope and range of factors and alternatives to be considered in the EIR preparation, and the "Public Review Period", a period of time (typically 45 days) to review the Draft EIR and submit comments to the City. As these documents and meetings are developed they will be posted to this web site under the "Documents" and "Upcoming Meetings" tabs.
Public Hearings at City Commissions and City Council
Further into the review process various city commissions, including the Planning Commission, will hold public hearings to make formal recommendations to the City Council on the proposed EIR and project entitlements. Ultimately, the City Council will hold public hearing(s) to render final decisions on the EIR and project entitlements. These meetings include opportunity for public comment during the hearings. These meetings are anticipated to occur in late 2011 and early 2012. Specific dates and times will be posted under the "Upcoming Meetings" tab as they get closer.
