TANC Power Lines Proposal

Questions Raised at the June 1, 2009 TANC Informational Meeting at City of Davis

  1. What makes co-location feasible?
  2. What is the no project option that you’ve considered?
  3. Who is TANC accountable to?
  4. Alternatives need to be looked at because this proposal pits varying interest groups against each other.
  5. Why are you pursuing renewable energy in Lassen County if it doesn’t seem to be good source there?
  6. Is TANC the lead agency for California Environmental Quality Act?
  7. Are there feasible alternatives?
  8. Do you only need a 200 ft. easement?
  9. Are maps available showing current transmission routes and can you provide them to the public?
  10. Will the cumulative impacts of both TANC’s and PG&E’s proposed lines be analyzed in the EIR/EIS?
  11. Can we see photos of towers and see how they can be reconfigured?
  12. Will you re-determine economic viability without solar?
  13. What EMF exposure would be at peak load (300 ft. from line)?
  14. Why don’t you run the proposed lines in SMUD territory?
  15. How high a ranking will you give health risks? [Are health risks a priority? What rank?]
  16. Why run through the center of Glen County?
  17. How will you acquire properties? Will you compensate for lost business, property values, etc?
  18. Why should we trust you now?
  19. Can you clarify what you have done about co-location?
  20. Are you looking at upgrading lines or using existing right of ways (e.g. roads)?
  21. How much electricity will the line carry?
  22. What are the top 10 challenges you expect to face with the project?
  23. Are you looking at high voltage DC underground transmission lines?
  24. If and when you get stimulus funding, where and how are you going to use it?
  25. What is the rationale behind having a 1500 ft. separation between existing lines?
  26. Why are the same routes still shown on the maps?
  27. Why did you propose routes that are not co-located?
  28. What is the relationship between TANC & other utilities, especially vis-à-vis co-location?
  29. Why can’t we apply the project dollars to distributed generation?
  30. What are the top 3 criteria used to site preliminary routes? (Why are the current routes near wildlife, homes, etc.)
  31. Is it true that consultants are preparing all the information?
  32. Do any of the panelists live within proposed study areas?
  33. Can the Regional Transmission Plan and other economic and background reports be published online?
  34. Are there any epidemiological studies on the health effects of transmission lines on power line and substation workers?
  35. Does TANC have the power of eminent domain?
  36. How close would TANC site to houses?
  37. How do the agencies stand to gain financially from the project?
  38. What are the “X”s on the road about?
  39. Why are the proposed routes along a known fault line?
  40. How are people expected to cope with impacts of the line? Has that been factored in?
  41. When can lines be removed from the maps?
  42. Why do you say that the lines won’t be closer than 1000 feet from houses, yet the maps show lines much closer than that to our houses?
  43. Can you underground the lines in South Davis?
  44. For SMUD → was the analysis of rooftop solar potential constrained by existing net metering laws?
