TANC Power Lines Proposal
Questions Raised at the June 1, 2009 TANC Informational Meeting at City of Davis
- What makes co-location feasible?
- What is the no project option that you’ve considered?
- Who is TANC accountable to?
- Alternatives need to be looked at because this proposal pits varying interest groups against each other.
- Why are you pursuing renewable energy in Lassen County if it doesn’t seem to be good source there?
- Is TANC the lead agency for California Environmental Quality Act?
- Are there feasible alternatives?
- Do you only need a 200 ft. easement?
- Are maps available showing current transmission routes and can you provide them to the public?
- Will the cumulative impacts of both TANC’s and PG&E’s proposed lines be analyzed in the EIR/EIS?
- Can we see photos of towers and see how they can be reconfigured?
- Will you re-determine economic viability without solar?
- What EMF exposure would be at peak load (300 ft. from line)?
- Why don’t you run the proposed lines in SMUD territory?
- How high a ranking will you give health risks? [Are health risks a priority? What rank?]
- Why run through the center of Glen County?
- How will you acquire properties? Will you compensate for lost business, property values, etc?
- Why should we trust you now?
- Can you clarify what you have done about co-location?
- Are you looking at upgrading lines or using existing right of ways (e.g. roads)?
- How much electricity will the line carry?
- What are the top 10 challenges you expect to face with the project?
- Are you looking at high voltage DC underground transmission lines?
- If and when you get stimulus funding, where and how are you going to use it?
- What is the rationale behind having a 1500 ft. separation between existing lines?
- Why are the same routes still shown on the maps?
- Why did you propose routes that are not co-located?
- What is the relationship between TANC & other utilities, especially vis-à-vis co-location?
- Why can’t we apply the project dollars to distributed generation?
- What are the top 3 criteria used to site preliminary routes? (Why are the current routes near wildlife, homes, etc.)
- Is it true that consultants are preparing all the information?
- Do any of the panelists live within proposed study areas?
- Can the Regional Transmission Plan and other economic and background reports be published online?
- Are there any epidemiological studies on the health effects of transmission lines on power line and substation workers?
- Does TANC have the power of eminent domain?
- How close would TANC site to houses?
- How do the agencies stand to gain financially from the project?
- What are the “X”s on the road about?
- Why are the proposed routes along a known fault line?
- How are people expected to cope with impacts of the line? Has that been factored in?
- When can lines be removed from the maps?
- Why do you say that the lines won’t be closer than 1000 feet from houses, yet the maps show lines much closer than that to our houses?
- Can you underground the lines in South Davis?
- For SMUD → was the analysis of rooftop solar potential constrained by existing net metering laws?
