Historic City Hall Renovation

Historic City Hall (AKA old Police Station) located at 226 F Street has taken on a whole new look and purpose for downtown. The Council and business leaders desired a tenant who would attract more visitors to downtown, stay open in the evening and not be subsidized by the city.

The city retained ownership of the building to preserve and protect the historic character of the building. Working with a commercial real estate broker, the city has entered into a lease with SRO. Inc. to open Bistro 33 Davis.

The principal owners of SRO. Inc., Matt and Fred Haines, also own and operate the very successful 33rd Street Bistro and Riverside Club House in Sacramento.

Architect Bob Lindley of YH2 Lee developed plans that protected the original components of the building while bringing the 1938 era building up to current Building Codes. Working for the city of Davis, Harrison Construction made improvements to the building to create a shell for the restaurant tenant.

Enjoy dining in the city’s first Courtroom/Council Chambers and Fire Station. The original lights, windows and heavy ceiling beams have been retained and are a major focal point of the restaurant. The building also includes an upscale banquet room that opens on to an extensive outdoor patio area.
