Playfields Soccer Field Conversion to Artificial Turf
Playfields Park soccer field was converted from natural grass turf to synthetic turf, which allows the field to be utilized in all weather conditions. Benefits include:
- 75% reduction of water use due to not having to heavily irrigate natural turf,
- 50% reduction in greenhouse gases by not having to mow grass on a weekly basis.
Construction included removing natural turf, installing drainage underneath artificial turf, installing subgrade to accept synthetic turf, purchasing artifical turf grooming equipment and including all improvements to provide ADA access to field.
All this makes it cost efficient, even though initially more expensive than grass to install. This long-term investment provides an enhanced community amenity and promotes community sustainability by eliminating water and fertilizer usage and the use of gasoline powered mowing equipment.
This project was completed in June 2009
