Interfaith Rotating Winter Shelter at Rotating Host Sites

Each year the Interfaith Rotating Winter Shelter (IRWS) program participates in efforts to house homeless individuals at various inter-faith congregations during the winter, including provision of an “intake center”. The purpose of the intake center is to assess individuals prior to their transfer from the intake site to various congregations throughout the City for overnight shelter during the cold winter months. On September 26, 2017, the City approved a Temporary Use Permit (TUP) to allow temporary use of the City-owned property located at 512 5th Street to serve as the intake center for this year’s program. The facility will operate daily between 4:45 p.m. and 6:45 p.m., from November 25, 2017 to March 13, 2018. The center will be staffed by 4 volunteers, serving up to 40 guests per day.
