Our groundwater is disinfected with a 12.5% sodium hypochlorite solution that is injected into the discharge line at each well site. The target chlorine residual is 0.3 parts per million (ppm) at the wellhead with the goal to have a 0.2 ppm residual in the distribution system. This disinfection is necessary to safeguard against bacterial contamination. The City has increased the chlorine residual at the well located at 3608 Chiles Road. This well requires Manganese removal at the site before the source water enters the distribution system. In order to maximize the Manganese removal, it is necessary to inject between 0.6 to 0.8 ppm at the site. This increase may result in a higher chlorine concentration in the distribution system around this area and may result in a noticeable chlorine smell at your tap. The level of chlorine, however, is well within the acceptable Maximum Residual Disinfection Level of 4.0 ppm. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Public Works Department between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at 530.757.5686 or e-mail the Department at
