Apply to Serve on a City Commission!
The City of Davis is looking for volunteers to serve as members of the following commissions:
- Business & Economic Development (2 vacancies)
- Finance & Budget (1 regular and 1 alternate vacancies)
- Historical Resources Management (1 alternate vacancy)
- Human Relations (1 regular and 1 alternate vacancy)
- Safety & Parking Advisory (1 vacancy)
- Tree (1 vacancy)
By serving on a city commission, you can participate in local government and help plan the future of Davis. Commissions serve as a conduit for citizen input – a way of gathering, analyzing and recommending options to the City Council. Commissions provide an important avenue for determining the community’s feelings about various issues and extending the reach of the democratic process.
If you are interested in serving on a commission and are a resident of Davis, please fill out an application. Applications may be picked up at the City Clerk’s Office at City Hall, 23 Russell Boulevard, Suite 4, Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., downloaded from the link below, or call (530) 757-5648 and an application will be mailed or emailed to you. Feel free to include a resume or other information to help the City Council in the selection process. Please be aware that all applications and accompanied documents are considered public information and may be disclosed/released pursuant to the California Public Records Act. Applications are submitted to City Council for appointment at a regular Council meeting.

Commission Information:
Business & Economic Development Commission
The Business & Economic Development Commission advises the City Council on matters relating to business and economic development; serves as a focal point for the community and City Government on business and economic development projects and issues. Meets the fourth Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m., Davis Joint Unified School District Conference Room, 526 B Street.
Finance & Budget Commission
The Finance & Budget Commission advises the City Council on financial and economic issues such as review of the city’s financial structure, comparative analysis of tax burdens in Davis compared to other communities, redevelopment, and promotion of increased understanding of the city budget. Meets the second Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m., Community Chambers, 23 Russell Boulevard.
Historical Resources Management Commission
The Historical Resources Management Commission advised City Council on matters pertaining to historical resources, maintains an inventory of historiical resources, recommends the designation of historical resources and reviews applications for alteration permits for historical structures. In order for the Commission to comply with Certified Local Government Guidelines, the Commission is recruiting applicants with special interest, competence, experience, or knowledge in historic preservation and the cultural heritage of Davis and professional qualifications in such fields as the following: architecture, history, architectural history, prehistoric and historic archaeology, urban planning, law, real estate, folklore, museum curation, conservation, landscape architecture, American studies, and cultural geography. Meets the third Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m., Hattie Weber Museum, 445 C Street.
Human Relations Commission
The Human Relations Commission seeks to build a community where relationships among diverse peoples are valued by all; discrimination and hate are not tolerated; the voices of the voiceless are heard; and citizens can address issues dealing with hatred, discrimination and alienation through education, outreach, studies and recommendations to the City Council. Meets the fourth Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m., Community Chambers, 23 Russell Boulevard.
Safety and Parking Advisory Commission
The Safety and Parking Advisory Commission advises the City Council on ways to improve existing accident prevention programs or implement new programs in order to reduce untimely deaths, crippling injuries and economic loses caused by accidents, and reviews and make recommendations on traffic safety proposals and parking issues. Meets the first Thursday of each month at 5:00 p.m., Community Chambers, 23 Russell Boulevard.
Tree Commission
The Tree Commission acts in an advisory capacity on tree related matters, including review and approval of tree removal requests. Meets the third Thursday of each month at 6:00 p.m., Davis Police Department, 2600 Fifth Street.
