City Council Approves Employee Furloughs to Achieve Cost Savings

The Davis City Council has approved furloughs for the Management group and the Program, Administrative and Support Employee Association (PASEA) to achieve costs savings in the 09-10 budget.

The furloughs supplement the five furlough days taken during an interim agreement period in the early part of the fiscal year and are expected to save over $360,000 during Fiscal Year 09-10.

The following dates will be taken as Furlough Days for the remaining Fiscal Year 09-10:

  • Friday, May 28
  • Friday, June 25

City Hall, which includes the City Manager’s Office, Finance, Community Development, and Community Services offices, will be closed on the furlough dates. The Public Works and Parks & General Services corporation yards will likewise be closed, as will public counters and phones throughout the city, with the exception of the police department.

All classes currently scheduled in the Senior Center, as well as the Elderly Nutrition program, will continue as scheduled, as will classes and rental events at the Veterans’ Memorial Center. Child Care Services will remain open and Davis Community Transit will operate as normal. Utility bill and parking citation payments may be dropped into the designated drop box in the parking lot of City Hall.

Emergency services and maintenance operations are not, at this time, affected by the furloughs.
