Sang-Ju, Korea

Sang-Ju, Korea is a rather rural community located on the northwestern border of North Gyeonsang province. All of Sang-Ju lies in the valley to the east of the river basin. With a population of 120,000, Sang-Ju is agriculturally rich. It has been given the nickname “Sam Baek” (The Three White Things) representing three agricultural products in which it produces: rice, silkworm cocoons, and dried persimmons.

The legislative and executive branches of San-Ju City are headed by officials elected by popular vote. Under current South Korean law, elections are held once every four years.

Like Davis, San-Ju is a bicycle friendly community along with being the home of Sang-Ju National University, a government-administered institution with a focus on agricultural technology.
