Philosophy
The landmark Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) expands protection and choices for individuals with disabilities. Many opportunities are available that may enhance the quality of life through the pursuit of leisure activities. The City of Davis is proud to offer both inclusive and separate recreational activities to ensure that community members have choices while in search of these goals.

Inclusive Recreation
Don't let a disability keep you from participating in a program or class offered by the Community Services Department. The City will provide reasonable assistance for you to be able to participate! The type and amount of assistance provided will be determined on an individual basis. Our goal is to help secure meaningful participation in our classes. Inclusive recreation participants must mark the ASSISTANCE NEEDED box on the registration form. Our staff will contact you to discuss your special needs. Please allow at least three weeks advance notice for all "Assistance Needed" requests.

Alternative Recreation
Individuals, ages 18 years and older, with developmental disabilities participate in a variety of afternoon and evening weekday programs around the city and at the Davis Senior Center, 646 A Street. Frequent weekend outings are also offered. All of the events include transportation. Our staff, mostly college students, provide supervision and facilitate socialization. Stop by City Hall and pick up a calendar of the month's programs. Registration and intake for all new participants is provided by the program coordinator.

Alternative Recreation Teens
Specifically designed for the younger crowd, teens with developmental disabilities can participate in weekly bowling sessions and weekend outings around the community. This program is similar to the adult program, but provides a bit more supervision and serves individuals 12-18 years of age. Monthly calendars of events also can be found at City Hall. Registration and an intake process for all new participants is provided by the Coordinator.

Volunteers
Volunteers are needed to work in general recreation classes with Inclusive Recreation participants. Special skills are appreciated, but not required.

Questions about the Alternative Recreation and Inclusive Recreation programs should be directed to the Alternative Recreation Coordinator for the Community Services Department, (530) 757-5694 or csweb@cityofdavis.org.
