Camp Putah Volunteer Program
Have you ever wanted to learn more about being a counselor? Do you want to do something this summer that you will never forget? Or, do you just love the summer camp experience so much that you can’t stay away from it?
The Volunteer Program at Camp Putah is for teens entering 8th - 11th grade. The volunteers assist one of the staff members throughout the week. They participate in all the camp activities with the campers while learning some of the aspects of a counselor position. Being a volunteer is more work than being a camper, but all volunteers agree that it is fun, memorable, and a great learning experience.
Volunteers will work at camp for two consecutive weeks. We find that volunteers retain what they learned better if weeks are back to back, rather than spread out. This, in turn, helps staff and campers tremendously since volunteers are such a huge part of what makes the camp successful!
Prospective volunteers will be asked to rank their availability for the other sessions on their application. The sessions are:
- Session A (June 15 - 19 and June 22 - 26, 2009)
- Session B (June 29 - July 2 and July 6 - 10, 2009)
- Session C (July 13 - 17 and July 20 - 24, 2009)
- Session D (July 27 - 31 and August 3 - 7, 2009)
- Session E (August 10 - 14 and 17 - 21, 2009)
Camp begins at 8:00 a.m. (volunteers should arrive at 7:45 a.m.) and ends at 2:00 p.m. On Thursday, volunteers will spend the night with the rest of the campers and staff, getting off at 1:15 p.m. on Friday. Volunteers will be required to attend an orientation prior to their sessions at camp, at which they will learn biking rules, emergency procedures, and their role as volunteers.
The volunteer fee of $50.00 covers the cost of training, supervision, and the volunteer camp T-shirt, and should be paid after the volunteer has been accepted in to the program. A low-key interview will be held in May. Applications are due by 5:00 p.m. April 10, 2009 and should be dropped off, faxed, or mailed to:
