Healthy Eating Active Living
The City of Davis recently joined other cities throughout the state as a member of the Healthy Eating and Active Living (HEAL) Cities Campaign to assist in the efforts to reduce local obesity. In December 2010, the Davis City Council adopted a Resolution establishing nutritional standards at city-operated concession stands and vending machines in parks and recreational facilities.
Arroyo Pool will be 100% compliant and Manor Pool and Playfields Park will be 50% compliant with the healthy eating standards. The nutritional standards are:
Food and Snacks
- Have no more than 35% of its calories from fat
- Have no more than 10% of its calories from saturated fat
- Have no more than 35% sugar by weight
Beverages
- Must be fruit and or vegetable based drinks that are composed of no less than 50% real juice and have no added caloric sweeteners; bottled drinking water; milk (full, soy, lactose free) and electrolyte replacement beverages.
- Flavored milk must be no more than 35% sugar by weight.
- Other drinks shall not be calorically sweetened more than 42 grams of added sweetener per 20 ounce serving.
