Programs & Activities: Special Events

St. Patrick's Day Celebration - generally held on or around March 17; this event is a celebration of everything Irish, and is designed to promote community interaction in a safe, fun environment. The event generally includes dessert and entertainment. Advanced ticket reservations are required, general attendance is approximately 125 people.

International Party - generally held mid-April; this is a magical opportunity to celebrate a specific region or country of the world. The event features cultural food and entertainment as well as a bidding raffle that is a fundraiser for the Senior Center. Door prizes from local merchants abound! Tickets are available for purchase at the beginning of March at the Davis Senior Center office.

Annual Health & Fitness Day Walk, Talk, and Breakfast - generally held on a Wednesday morning in mid-May; Join us as we "step out" to raise the profile of older adults in our community. Active seniors and everyone interested is invited to put on their walking shoes and join us for the one-mile walk beginning at the senior center. After a brisk walk led by the Cal Aggie Marching Band we will return to the center for a complimentary continental breakfast. Registration for the walk will begin in April by calling the Senior Center at (530) 757-5696.

Ice Cream Social & Volunteer Party
Join us mid-August at the Senior Center for our Annual Ice Cream Social & Volunteer Party. This affair is for all of you who help make this center run smoothly, and whose special touches make our center such a wonderful place to visit. You’ll be able to build your own sundae (sugar-free ice cream will be available) with lots of toppings, while enjoying entertainment. Although this event honors those volunteers who make our center so special, it is open to everyone. Feel free to bring your family, friends and grandchildren!

Health Fair/ Flu Shots - generally held the latter part of October or early November, from 9:00 a.m. to Noon. The annual Davis Senior Center/Sutter Health Fair provides an opportunity for interested seniors to get their flu shots. The Yolo County Health Department offers the flu shots for a minimal fee, and seniors age 60 and over, caregivers and people with chronic diseases (with proof) are eligible to receive the immunization. In addition, other health checks (body fat, blood pressure, foot screenings, hearing aid checks/cleanings, and eyeglass repair/cleaning are available, as well informational booths on a variety of topics of interest to older adults are featured.

Mad Hatter's Tea Party - generally held near the turn of the year; here is an opportunity to express your creativity by coming up with a hat that expresses the inner "you", while joining us for a "cuppa". Entertainment and a hat judging contest will accompany tea and goodies.

Holiday Craft Boutique - generally held in early December, the Senior Center hosts crafters eager to sell you the perfect gift for the holidays. Ceramics, knitting, paintings, jewelry, cookbooks and more are featured. Admission is free, and everyone is encouraged to stop by and shop. Anyone interested in participating as a vendor may pick up an application at the main office of the Davis Senior Center, 646 A Street. For more information contact us at (530) 757-5696.

Holiday Dinner & Dance - generally held on the second Tuesday in December; this event is a celebration of our diversity and our collective beliefs of the holiday season. The event features holiday entertainment, a catered dinner by a local restaurant, dancing to a live band, and general good fellowship. Ticket prices range from $15-$20 per person, and can be purchased at the Davis Senior Center office in November and December. Advanced ticket reservations are required, general attendance is approximately 150 people.
