Although an integral part of city life since the early 1960s, the Senior Citizens of Davis (SCD) did not become officially incorporated as a non-profit support organization until 1976. It was at this time that the organization became more formally recognized for its efforts in promoting the common good and general welfare of older adults in the community, and became the official support organization for the Davis Senior Center . Through its combined efforts with the City of Davis and other community partnerships, SCD has led the way to many successful projects including the original construction of the Davis Senior Center in 1983, the Phase II expansion project in 1987, the Senior Memorial Bronze Statuary in 2002, and the Phase III expansion project completed in 2004. SCD has also lent financial & volunteer support to the Time Off for Caregivers Respite program through Citizens Who Care, as well as Yolo Hospice, Yolo Adult Day Health Center, and many other worthy organizations who benefit our older adult community.
SCD also provides support to the Davis Senior Center through the funding of the Senior Scene Newsletter. This monthly publication provides detailed information about services and daily activities, as well as providing a monthly menu for our Friendship Café, which offers nutritious lunches Monday through Friday, and a calendar of excursions offered through Davis Travelaires, a non-profit travel organization based within the Senior Center.
As a member of SCD, your generous donation of time and financial gifts contribute to the wide array of programs and activities offered at the Davis Senior Center, as well as to an anticipation of its future needs. Your ongoing support is vital to the organization's not-for-profit mission, and SCD values your privacy by not distributing or selling personal membership information to any outside organizations.
