Changes are Coming
A letter from the Teen Center Coordinator:
May 8, 2009
Dear Teen Program Participant:
This past Tuesday evening (May 5, 2009), the City Council directed staff to move forward with plans for re-use of the Third & B facility for the U.S. Bicycle Hall of Fame Headquarters and Bicycle Museum, and to begin plans for relocating the current services at the building to alternative locations. The timeline for vacating the Third & B facility by city programs, such as the Teen program, is currently slated for August 31. All currently scheduled events and summer recreation activities at the Third & B facility are anticipated to remain in effect until this date.
For the past 18 years, the Third & B facility has served our teen community well, but the time has come for a change. The closure of this facility certainly does not mean the end of teen programs – we will continue to survive and thrive! It’s a time to venture into unknown territories, and to create a new vision for our teen program. One that will not only provide new opportunities for you and your friends, but one that will be unique and special as all of you. Teen program staff is already working on programs and activities that will continue to provide plenty of things to keep you busy throughout the next year and beyond, and we are doing everything possible to minimize the impacts of the impending closure of the Third & B Teen Center.
Over the next few months, program staff is going to be looking for teens to help provide us with their ideas and interests in future programming and facility needs. We realize that this may not be your primary focus during the summer months, but we really need your participation even if it is only a few hours. If you are interested in being a part of this process, or if you know of someone who may be interested in helping us plan our future teen programs, please feel free to contact me at (530) 757-5626 or via email at chughes@cityofdavis.org
Sincerely,
Caitlyn Hughes
Community Services Coordinator
