City Announces Business and Economic Development Award
The City of Davis Business and Economic Development Commission is seeking public suggestions for the third annual Business and Economic Development Awards. The Commission will recommend the City honor an individual, organization, or local business operating within the City of Davis for extraordinary contributions to their industry and the community. The Commission may choose to recommend up to three award recipients should they deem this appropriate. The Commission encourages businesses, organizations, and individuals to submit suggestions for award nomination prior to the deadline of Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at 5:00 p.m.
The award was established to recognize outstanding local businesses, organizations, or individuals who have made positive contributions to the City’s business and economic development climate. Last year three awards were bestowed. Janis Lott of Newsbeat was recognized for her excellence in individual contributions; Schilling Robotics was recognized for excellence in its business contributions, and Chuck Roe, local developer and business leader was recognized for his extended excellence and long term contributions to the local economy.
The Commission will review public suggestions for potential nomination for contributions made within the past year and/or for extended excellence, to recognize lifetime business contributions. Candidates will be judged based on their innovations and achievements in their respective field or industry as well as their dedication to the community.
“The Commission established this award to honor and highlight those businesses or individuals that have made a significant contribution to our local economy,” said Commission chairman, Anthony Costello. “It is very much a community-based award, and the Commission encourages input from the community to assist in the nomination process. We are also seeking nominations for an ‘extended excellence’ category to acknowledge longer term contributions.”
