We Welcome Comments From All Interested in the Future of Davis
Please take this opportunity to review the Working Draft Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) and 15 Priority Actions that have been prepared by the City’s Business and Economic Development Commission. This document has been prepared at the request of the City Council and is intended to serve as a community-wide action framework to support Davis businesses and strengthen the Davis economy. Accomplishing these priority actions will require collaborative efforts from a broad spectrum of committed community Participants and Champions, and public/private partnerships.
Public Outreach Process
The City Council adopted the CEDS and 15 Priority Actions as a “Working Draft” on July 5, 2011. With this action the Council requested further public outreach to other City Commissions, community members and organizations to confirm, or recommend alternate priority actions and their commitment to achieving them. As noted in the “Preface” and “Vision” sections of the document, achievement of these visions and strategic goals will require consensus and collaboration. An objective of this effort was to present an ambitious vision and proactive action plan that would be implemented by local civic champions supported by a broad coalition of public and private community partners.
The Working Draft CEDS has 2 Part parts and 15 Actions considered of Highest Priority:
Part 1 is the Commission’s vision of Davis in 2025. Without a clear statement of the range of possible successful outcomes, it is impossible to specify the action steps that must be taken. The vision statement is composed of a series of vignettes that lay out the Commission’s view of how Davis might look in 2025 if a comprehensive economic development strategy is adopted and implemented.
Part 2 is a list of key goals and action steps that need to be addressed in order to realize the vision of Davis in 2025.
Both parts are organized around the following six interdependent elements to facilitate analysis and community discussion:
- Business
- Downtown
- Regional Collaboration
- Quality of Life
- Davis as a Destination
Priority Actions – the Fifteen CEDS Priority Actions to be pursued at this time are considered to be of highest priority for the community as a whole.
All interested community members are asked to:
- Review the Working Draft of the CEDS and 15 Priority Actions
- Suggest revisions or additions that should be made
- Identify any actions they wish to Champion or support and actively Participate in accomplishing
- Provide comments to Sarah Worley
