City Charter Subcommittee - Agendas and Minutes

Function/Purpose:
|
The City Council appointed councilmembers Lamar Heystek and Stephen Souza to a subcommittee to look at the possibility of developing a city charter for Davis. This effort came about after the successful passage of Measure L (November 2006), an advisory measure that asked Davis residents whether they would be in favor of choice voting. Outside of special legislation, the only way a city can move to choice voting is if they have a charter that permits it.
Specifically, the subcommittee is charged with making recommendations to the City Council about the following:
- whether to place a proposed city charter on the ballot (it would require voter approval).
- the elements that a Davis charter should include
Upon conclusion of their efforts, the subcommittee will forward their recommendations to the full City Council for discussion.
