Who May Use This Service?

Residents of Davis who have a qualifying disability under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), as well as the general public (when time and space permit) may register to ride with Davis Community Transit.

Disabled riders may be accompanied by a personal care attendant if their registration form shows this need. A personal care attendant is not required to pay a fare as long as they are riding with the registered rider. One unregistered companion who pays the regular fare may also accompany any registered rider on any trip. Companions must have the same pick-up and drop-off locations as the passenger.

How to Register

Registration forms can be obtained by calling our reservation line during office hours. The registration form can be mailed to you. You may also pick up registration forms at 840 Second Street in Davis (the SP Depot). You must include all information and answer all questions that apply to you. Incomplete applications will not be processed. Completed applications may be mailed to us or dropped by our office.

Disabilities must be verified by a licensed health care professional. You may turn in your registration form and use the service for up to 21 days while we contact your designated health care provider.

Making Ride Reservations

Rides may be reserved by calling our telephone reservation line during office hours at least one day and up to 14 days in advance. Because of scheduling constraints same day rides will only be accepted if time and space permit. The pick-up and drop-off points must fall within our hours and area of operation. Requests may be made for either single or weekly rides. The scheduler must be notified if a companion or personal care attendant will accompany you. Rides are scheduled on a first come, first served basis and are not prioritized. Our normal hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. and Saturday & Sunday, 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Evening and weekend rides are consolidated to make routes more efficient.

Pick-ups & Drop-offs

While we try to accommodate your preferred pick-up time, we ask that you be flexible enough to accept available times within 60 minutes of your preferred time. If you are trying to meet an appointment time, you must accept a scheduled time up to 60 minutes before that time. You must also be able to ride in the vehicle up to 60 minutes. When a pick-up time is scheduled the bus will arrive up to 10 minutes before or after that time. Due to scheduling constraints the driver is only able to wait 3 minutes after arrival for you to be ready.

Davis Community Transit is a curb-to-curb service. The driver will assist you on and off the vehicle. Drivers will not enter your home and are not able to assist you into the doctor's offices, etc. Riders who feel they need extra assistance should travel with a companion or personal care attendant.

Return Trips

Often when you schedule a ride you do not know what time you'll be ready for your return trip. These are called "will call" returns. When you are ready to be picked up simply call the reservation number during service hours and we will pick you up as soon as possible. The average wait time for "will call" returns is 30 minutes.

Cancellations

We understand that cancellations do occur. If you need to cancel your ride, please notify us as soon as possible to avoid wasting time, fuel, and space that may have been needed by someone else. Repeated failure to show up for a reserved "time" can result in the suspension or revocation of your eligibility to use Davis Community Transit.

Transfers to or from Other Services

Trips outside our service area, but still within the YoloBus service area, can be coordinated with the scheduled fixed route service and other Yolo County paratransit services. All equipment on YoloBus is wheelchair accessible and transfers between YoloBus and Davis Community Transit can be facilitated by the dispatchers of these services. These trips must still be reserved like any other ride on Davis Community Transit. We will arrange and coordinate any necessary transfers for trips which start on Davis Community Transit.

Fares

Passengers with disabilities must pay a $1.75 fare for each one-way trip. Personal care attendants do not pay a fare. Passengers who are not ADA eligible must pay a $3.50 fare for each one-way trip. A one-way trip is completed each time the passenger arrives at a scheduled destination. Companions and attendants must stay with the registered rider. "No Shows" are subject to a service charge equal to a one way fare.

You must have the exact fare. Drivers do not carry change.

Prepaid 10 and 20 ride tickets may be purchased from the driver or at the Senior Center, which is located at 646 A Street. Prepaid 10 or 20 ride passes may not be used for taxi rides, YoloBus, or other paratransit services.

Fares must be paid or tickets presented for validation at the time of boarding. Rides will not be provided without payment of fares. The fare applies to all trips taken on Davis Community Transit, or a taxi referral made by the Davis Community Tranist Dispatcher..

Safety Rules

Seat belts must be worn by all ambulatory passengers. Wheelchairs must have an operable and effective braking system, which must remain engaged at all times while on the lift or while the vehicle is in motion. Walkers must either be folded and stored between row or seats, or secured in the same manner as wheelchairs.

If you are a wheelchair user, there must be a sturdy ramp if there are steps at either your pick-up or drop off location. Ramps must be sloped at no more than a 1 inch rise for each 12 inches of horizontal travel, and be equipped with rails on each side which prevent the wheels of the chair from rolling off the edge.

Drivers are not equipped to provide passengers with medical care. Passengers must comply with public health standards while on the bus. We will not transport people who are bleeding, losing any body fluids, or who constitute a public health hazard. Persons who require constant medical monitoring should not use this service.
