City Council Approves Employee Furloughs to Achieve Cost Savings
Two bargaining units of city of Davis employees will be required to take a total of five furlough days between now and December 1, 2009.
The Davis City Council has approved furloughs for the Management group and the Program Administrative and Support Employee Association (PASEA) to save costs in the 09-10 budget.
This measure is an interim measure between now and December 1, while overall city employee negotiations continue. The measure is expected to save approximately $315,000 during the interim agreement period.
The anticipated furlough dates are as follows:
- Friday, July 31
- Friday, August 21
- Friday, September 18
- Friday, October 30
- Wednesday, November 25
City Hall, which includes the City Manager’s Office, Finance, Community Development, and Community Services offices, will be closed on the furlough dates, with some exceptions. The Public Works and Parks and General Services corporation yards will likewise be closed, as will public counters and phones throughout the city, with the exception of the police department. The Elderly Nutrition program will continue to serve meals at the Senior Center, and Child Care Services will remain open. Utility bill and parking citation payments may be dropped into the designated drop box in the parking lot of City Hall.
Emergency services and maintenance operations are not, at this time, affected by the furloughs.
