Burrowing Owl The City of Davis Open Space program implements long-standing community goals related to the protection of natural and biological resources.

The Program includes planning, land acquisition, site development and management activities.  An Open Space Commission serves as the focal point that helps unify all of the various projects and programs spread across the Parks & General Services, Community Development and Public Works Departments.

 

 

The City is celebrating 20 years of active farmland conservation, having accepted its first easement in 1988. With over 3,000 acres protected to date, the City’s program was the first municipal agricultural protection program in the State and most likely the nation.

 

Burrowing Owl Program activities include:
  • Natural Resource Planning
  • Farmland Protection
  • Wildlife Habitat Protection and Restoration
  • Open Space Management
  • Providing natural resource-based recreational and educational opportunities
