The cities of Davis and Dixon, the Solano Land Trust (SLT), UC Davis, and Solano County have worked together to permanently protect the 300 acre McConeghy Farm located in northeast Solano County. The farm was considered to be under heavy threat of conversion and was considered a key building block in the creation of a permanent agricultureal buffer between Davis and Dixon.
Though not technically signatories to these documents, UC Davis and Solano County continue to support the acquisition.
The property, which surrounds the I-80/Kidwell road interchange, was the first property acquired using Measure O, a special tax approved by Davis voters in 2000 to fund open space preservation.
The property was acquired primarily for conservation of agricultural lands along the I-80 corridor between the two cities.
The fields have low habitat value as they are intensively farmed and virtually no native vegetation occurs on the site. There is no public access to the property although the property is adjacent to the north ramp of the Kidwell Road exit on I-80.
No special status species of concern have been sighted on the property although Swainson's Hawks may use the fields.
More common wildlife that can be sighted at various times of the year include songbirds, egrets, and crows.
