CITIZENS ARE INVITED TO ATTEND A PROGRESS REPORT ON THE DAVIS CLIMATE ACTION PLAN ON APRIL 30 , 2009

The City of Davis Climate Action Team is nearing the end of its work on identifying potential actions to reduce the community’s carbon footprint. Interested citizens are invited to attend a progress report on the CAT’s efforts on Thursday, April 30 beginning at 6:30 PM in the Community Chambers at City Hall, 23 Russell Blvd. The information meeting will focus on the CAT’s work to identify early actions that will yield early greenhouse gas emission reductions.

The Climate Action Team is made up of a wide variety of community interest groups, organizations and citizens who are participating in the effort to develop a Climate Action Plan for Davis. The Team has been meeting for the past year and includes representatives from UC Davis, the Sierra Club, Davis Area Chamber of Commerce, Associated Students of UC Davis, Davis Joint Unified School District, Explorit Science Center, Care for God’s Creation, PG&E, Yolo County and the Davis Energy Group, as well as individual citizens and City commissioners.

This informational meeting is a follow up to a forum held in June of 2008, where hundreds of citizens provided input and suggestions to the CAT in its effort to identify potential actions to reduce local greenhouse gas emissions. In a challenging process, the CAT has narrowed the potential actions down to a list of several dozen. Their recommended list will be forwarded to the City’s Natural Resources Commission and City Council this summer for further analysis and adoption.

The meeting will begin with at 6:30 PM with a brief overview of the City’s continuing efforts to combat global warming followed by the presentation on the CAT’s work. Following the presentation, CAT members and City staff will be available to discuss the recommended actions.
