Central Park Gardens 5th Annual Open House and Plant Sale
Saturday, October 29, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Central Park Gardens will host its 5th Annual Open House and Plant Sale on Saturday, October 29th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in conjunction with the Davis Farmers Market Fall Festival.
This year, the garden volunteers are proud to be unveiling two new permanent garden features: a sculptural sundial created by artist Angela Ridgway and a series of interpretive signs designed by Mark Deamer that highlight sustainable gardening tips and techniques. Both Ridgway and Deamer will be available during the Open House to answer questions about their work.
Other event highlights include Master Gardener information booths with eco-friendly and water-saving gardening advice, information about least toxic pest control from the City of Davis, nutrition facts and recipe ideas from the UC Davis Student Nutrition Association, and a fun seed-planting activity for kids. Fall is a great time for planting, and the plant sale of fall vegetables, flowers, herbs, bulbs, and natives will raise much needed funds to benefit garden maintenance.
Central Park Gardens is a volunteer-managed demonstration garden located in Davis' Central Park along B Street between 3rd and 4th Streets in downtown Davis. The garden features a variety of themed plantings that demonstrate environmentally-friendly plant choices and gardening practices.
