Master Tree List

This Master Tree List was reviewed and approved by the City of Davis Tree Commission in April, 2002. It is a guide for the City to use when choosing street trees. Not all varieties of trees on the list will be planted. Tree species not specifically listed may be used upon approval by the City Arborist.

Definitions:

  • Crown Diameter: If the sun were directly above the tree, the crown diameter would be the width of the shade pattern. Estimate at full growth (about 15 years).
  • Size (small, medium, large): Estimated height at maturity. May vary due to soil, climate, and other growing conditions. Small = 15 to 25 feet. Medium = 25 to 40 feet. Large = More than 40 feet.
  • Growth Rate (slow, moderate, fast): Estimated growth rate per year. May vary due to soil, climate, and other growing conditions. Slow = 18 inches or less. Moderate = 18 to 30 inches. Fast = More than 30 inches.
  • Trial Use: Should only be used in small numbers.
  • Street Tree/Parking Lot: Trees not marked Street Tree or Parking Lot should not be planted in parking lots or street easements.
