Crime Free Multi-Housing Program
Crime Prevention Links
The Davis Police Department has designed a program to help owners, managers, leasing agents and staff deal with tenant issues and illegal activity thereby resulting in a "crime free" environment at your apartment community.
The Crime Free Multi Housing Program is comprised of a three phase process:
Phase I: Involves training the owner and key property employees to become more effective in reducing criminal activity. Phase I includes a 4-hour training course sponsored by the Davis Police Department and covers the following topics:
- Crime Prevention Strategies
- Preparing the Property
- Applicant Screening
- Rental Agreements
- Ongoing Management
- Illegal Activity
- Evictions
- Background Checks
- Fair Housing
- Working with Police
- Life Safety and Fire Prevention
Apartment owners, managers and staff must attend Phase I training in order to be part of the Crime Free Multi Housing Program.
Phase II: Requires the landlord to meet the minimum-security requirements of Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (C.P.T.E.D.). There will be property inspections to educate the property owners on the needs to create a safe living environment. When an apartment meets these requirements, they can then move on to Phase III.
Phase III: Involves training the residents to be the eyes and ears for the apartment community. The management/property owners facilitate a property “social” (crime prevention meeting) working together with the Davis Police Department. Topics that can be discussed may include but are not limited to:
- Responsibilities of Resident(s)
- Resident’s Rights
- Domestic Violence
- Burglary and Theft Prevention
- Block Watch Principles
- Personal Safety Awareness
- Auto Theft Prevention
- Sexual Assault Prevention
