Pace Car Program
About the Program
The Neighborhood Pace Car Program is an innovative citizen-based program offered by the Davis Police Department. The Pace Car program is designed to calm traffic on Davis Streets and promote Davis residents and the Davis Police Department to work together to resolve traffic issues throughout the City. This innovative program is designed to form partnerships with the residents of Davis to act as traffic calming devices, thus slowing traffic.
How the Program Works
As a pace car driver, speed limits are strictly followed. Since Pace Car participants follow the speed limits, vehicles driving behind a Pace Car must also obey the speed limit. If enough Davis citizens participate by taking the pledge and becoming Pace Car drivers, speeding motorists are slowed, thus making Davis a safer community for other motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians. It is the goal of this program to promote a sense of individual responsibility for courteous and safe driving. For these reasons, the Davis Police Department encourages all residents to read and sign the Neighborhood Pace Car Pledge. Once that is done, you can proudly display your Pace Car sticker and know you are making a difference.
Pace Car Pledge Form
Residents of Davis read and sign a pledge which asks them to abide by all of the traffic laws (speed laws and pedestrian right of ways) and also to do their part to drive less by walking or bicycling. Once the pledge form has been signed and submitted to the Police Department, the residents are given a sticker which is displayed in the rear window of their vehicle. The sticker identifies the resident as a "Neighborhood Pace Car."
Please complete the Pace Car Pledge form and mail to: Davis Police Department, Pace Car Program, 2600 Fifth St., Davis, Ca., 95618 or fax it to 530-757-7102. Your decal will then be sent to you.
