Davis PD's K-9 Unit

The Davis Police Department's K-9 Unit is currently comprised of two dogs and two handlers. The K-9 Unit is considered a specialty unit within Patrol and is responsible for providing specialized services when needed. The primary goal of the K-9 Unit is to reduce the risk of injury or death to officers while they are engaged in the performance of their duties.

The Davis Police Department currently has a K-9 Unit assigned to each of the night shifts. A K-9 team may be dispatched to any call where a suspect is wanted for a serious or violent crime. In these cases, a K-9 may be used to locate a hiding suspect, apprehend a fleeing suspect, or protect the officers on the call.

The K-9 Unit provides many services to the officers and community, some of which include:

  • Searching for wanted suspects
  • Tracking wanted suspects
  • Searching for narcotics
  • Searching for evidence discarded by suspects
  • Suspect apprehension
  • Officer protection
  • Public appearances at local schools and organizations
  • The K-9 Unit relies heavily on donations of local businesses and citizens. If you are interested in donating to the K-9 Unit, please contact us at (530) 747-5400.

A special thank you to Armor Steele and Otto Construction for their very generous donations.
