| Additional Info: | Specialty Theatrical Work: The intended work result for Specialty Work consists of renovation work to "Interior Finishes" at the existing main screen in Auditorium 1 and the new interior finishes to be supplied and installed at the new second screen in Auditorium 2, inclusive of new specialty theatrical finishes in both auditoriums, as specified. Furnish and install of interior finishes such as (but not limited to) wall drapery, fabric wrapped acoustical panels, decorative architectural or acoustical murals, miscellaneous specialty theatrical building materials, seating at new second screen in Auditorium 2, viewing screens and support frames, screen masking including motorized screen masking control system for both Auditorium 1 and 2. | |

The Varsity Theatre closed to the public on Friday, October 16th to continue work on the addition of a second auditorium. The main screen will resume movie presentations on Friday, November 13th with "A Serious Man", the latest Coen brothers' film. The Varsity Theatre opened at its present location on June 9, 1950. ************* The second screen auditorium will be located behind the current screen in the space formerly used as a theatre stage. The new movie theatre will have 100 comfortable new seats in the "stadium seating" style on raked rows and Dolby surround sound. The new second screen will open by February 19, 2010. Access to the new auditorium will be through an enclosed hallway leading from the lobby down the left side of the current theatre. *************The city-owned facility is leased to Jon Fenske and Sinisa Novakovic and they have operated the Varsity primarily as a single-screen art house cinema since April 6, 2006. When the second screen opens, the Varsity theatre will be able to greatly expand their selection of independent and art house movies while drawing more visitors to downtown Davis.
