Description: Install curb ramps and eliminate barriers on City Sidewalks leading to public transportation and in high pedestrian traffic areas.
Additional Info: Much of the construction done with this contract coincides with our Overlay Project funded with Federal grants, a requirements of which is ADA accessibility.

    Every year the City uses some of the ADA funds to back fill curb ramps into areas of Davis that were constructed prior to 1991. We are currently installing curb ramps associated with transportation systems per the federally mandated order of work. So, in the older neighborhoods we are installing curb ramps to get people to the Unitrans routes.

    We construct a new batch of curb ramps every year in addition to working on various parking lots.

    Constructed accessible parking space at the Senior Center and at the Davis South Putah Creek demo trail, added 2 planting strip crossings on Fifth Street in this year's annual concrete contract. Add 11 complicated curb ramps with domes. Added audible signals at 2 intersections.

    At the 2/7/07 meeting of the ADA committee, the committee assembled the annual request for CBDG funds. We will be adding several curb ramps on Fourth Street this year in addition to other projects.

    Bus stop landing pads crossing the planter strips are being built.
    Accessible parking space at the South Fork Putah Creek Preserve is under construciton.

    THe parking lot at Fifth & D has been painted. The parking lot at the Creek South Fork Putah Creek Habitat Area has been designed and is out to quote. Two planter strip crossings are out to quote.

    This is an on-going project that annual requests funding from the CDBG monies from HUD. Some aspects of the project are annual such as the addition of curb ramps to retrofit parts of town built before the Americans with Disabilities Act. Some projects are unique to the specific year such as the Third Street Corridor that in addition to other items added new curb ramps. Some projects cover a number of years such as the parking lot rehabilitations and the Veterans Memorial Center Restrooms.
