The city of Davis has entered into a contract with Waters Contracting for the renovation of the 34 year-old Manor Pool Complex. The complex will undergo a complete makeover to address a leak in the dive pool, replace old electrical and mechanical systems and facility structures, bring the complex up to current health and safety codes and ADA accessibility requirements, and to modernize the complex to better meet the needs of the users. The upcoming modifications will include replacing two of the smaller pools--the baby and octangular pools--with a new, zero-depth “beach” entry pool and a new, separate interactive water play area. A single-loop waterslide will replace the old slide at the competition pool and the aging diving platforms will be replaced at the dive pool. New turf and irrigation will be installed, and the decking will be replaced to comply with current ADA accessibility requirements and to eliminate slip hazards. The bath house and changing area will be rehabilitated and include adding a roof and installing new shower and changing rooms. And, a new snack bar is being added to better serve the pool users. Now that the contract has been signed, the project is expected to begin within the next month, with an anticipated completion date of May 1, 2008. Although the pool, parking lot and restrooms will be closed during the construction period, the park will remain open. Portable restrooms will be provided in the park during construction, and recreation camps will still occur during the summer with driver drop off occurring adjacent to the park on Tulip Lane. During this summer, city staff has adjusted programming at both Community & Arroyo Pools to accommodate the summer demand for aquatics programming. Information about the renovation can be found on the City’s website at http://www.cityofdavis.org/pw/CIP/, and the following city staff can assist with answering questions during the project: Connie Foppiano 530-757-5626 Recreation programs, Michael Mitchell 530-757-5681 Construction/Contractor, Jim Newman 530-757-5656 Slide Hill Park, Anne Brunette 530-757-5626 Neighborhood issues City staff anticipates the reopening of Manor Pool in 2008 to exceed the public’s expectations and to be a community asset that will benefit the residents for years to come. Look for announcements on Manor’s Grand Re-Opening in May 2008-- we’ll look forward to welcoming the community to the “new” Manor Pool!
