| Description: | The eastbound lanes of Covell Boulevard between Sycamore and Anderson have experienced severe subsidence, especially in the past few years. The temporary asphalt patching the City has done has continued to subside. The City has hired Blackburn Consulting/Ponticello Engineers to conduct subsurface soils tests and recommend to the City some remediation options for this problem. Blackburn/Ponticello are experienced at "forensic" investigations for subsurface and soils problems. The initial thought is that an old sewer line trench (approximately 20 feet deep) is settling and may have to be dug up and recompacted. | |
| Additional Info: | The project includes reconstruction of the Roundabout intersection at Anderson Road and Alvarado Avenue. The roundabout improvements will be the first order of work and is anticipated to be shutdown for about a week. The roundabout will be improved and re-opened for traffic before any work begins on Covell Blvd. | |

AC General and Western Stabilization completed the lime treatment portion of the job last week. See the Pictures section for photos and descriptions of the work. This week, AC General will install rock subgrade in the roadway and the vertical curb in the landscaped median. - Thursday August 23, 2007
AC General has made steady progress on the job with installation of the water line completed and gutting of the top 24" of AC and AB this week. Next week, AC General's subcontractor, Western Stabilization, will start the lime treatment of the soil down another 4 feet. This process will take 4-5 days. STATUS: The Anderson/Alvarado Roundabout will be re-opened this afternoon (Thursday, 8/2). UPDATED SCHEDULE: AC General will start work on the water main on Monday, 8/6, in the intersection of Sycamore and Covell. On 6/26, the City Council awarded the job to AC General Engineering, Inc. out of Sacramento. A pre-construction meeting will be held soon. Public notice added in Attachments. - Thursday June 7, 2007
Project is currently out to bid with a bid opening on June 19. - Thursday January 12, 2006
The consultants analysis is complete. The design for the plans and specifications will more than likely take 4-6 months, which will probably not be in time for the 2006 construction season. Construction will more than likely happen in summer of 2007. It has not been decided yet if the plans and specifications will be done by a consulting engineer, or in-house. - Friday December 9, 2005
The consultants analysis is complete. Design will begin in January and construction is scheduled for Summer of 2006 or 2007. The construction will involve digging out approximately 5 feet of material in the vicinity of the depressed areas and replacing it with strengthened material and a reinforcing mat. In addition, a water mainwill be installed to complete a connection that is needed from Anderson to Sycamore. Traffic will more than likely be routed to the north side of the median. There will be disruptions and delays at both signals for most of the summer during construction. - Friday September 16, 2005
Blackburn consulting is doing subsurface investigations and is currently analyzing data to come up with a plan of action for remediation of the uneven pavement.
