Rust
This disease attacks roses and lawns. The yellow and orange
colored formations are favored by moisture. The disease will not spread
from one host to another (e.g., roses to grass); it is host specific.
Prevention/Management
- Mow lawns regularly - winter cleanup of plant debris
helps.
- Maintain adequate fertility - faster growing plants are
more resistant.
Controls
- More toxic: for roses Funginex® and others.
- Less toxic:
- - roses: sulphur
- - see prevention/management
Powdery Mildew
Mildew appears as a white or gray coating on leaves and
flower buds of roses and shrubs.
Prevention/Management
- Increase air movement and exposure to sun.
Controls
- More toxic: Funginex® and others.
- Less toxic:
- - sulphur (used as a preventative)
- - baking soda and water
