City of Davis Rent-a-Recycler Program

Clear Stream

If you are hosting an event and you would like to rent some recycling containers, contact the City Recycling Program 757-5686. The Recycling Program has Clearstream Recycling containers that are available to rent for events in Davis. There is a rental fee for these Clearstream Recyclers and a fee for the plastic bags:

  • $1.00 rental fee per Clearstream Recycler
  • $0.25 fee per plastic bag
The Clearstream Recyclers are easy to assemble and the lightweight frame folds up easily for transportation. Holes in the lid limit contamination of recyclables with trash. Clear bags allow people to see what material should be placed inside.

set-up

If you wish to rent our Clearstream Recyclers for your event, please follow the simple steps below:

Step 1: Reserve the Clearstream Recyclers and arrange for a pick-up time

Contact the City Recycling Program at 757-5686 or pwweb@cityofdavis.org to reserve your Clearstreams. Let the Recycling Program staff know the details of the event—when and where the event is, how many Clearstream Recyclers you need (staff can help you figure this out if you’re not sure). Be sure to schedule a pick-up time for your Clearstreams. Clearstream Recyclers may be picked up no earlier than two days before the event. Clearstream Recyclers are available for pick-up at the Public Works Department between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You must call ahead to make an appointment. If you show up without an appointment, your Clearstreams will not be available.

Step 2: Fill out the required paperwork

Fill out a Clearstream Check-out Form and bring it with you when you pick up your Clearstreams.

Step 3: Pick up your Clearstreams and arrange for a drop-off time

Arrive at the Public Works Department during your scheduled time to pick up the Clearstreams. The Public Works Department is located at 1717 5th Street, between L Street and Pole Line Road. Please enter the corporation yard through the 5th Street entrance. As you go through the gate, make a left and park along the fence-line where the parking spaces are marked “visitor parking.” Go into building “A” main entrance; a staff-person at the front counter will assist you.

If you haven’t done so already, before you leave be sure to let staff know when you will be dropping off the Clearstreams.

Step 4: Setting up recycling at your event

The Clearstream Recyclers are easy to assemble. The frame folds open, the plastic bag is hung on the frame and the domed lid snaps quickly onto the frame.

See below for tips on successful recycling at your event.

Step 7: Recycle

Be sure to have a plan on how to recycle what you collect during your event. There are a few State Certified Redemption centers in Davis where you can bring your recycling to cash in on the CRV:

  • Aztlan Recycling, 400 Mace Blvd., Davis
  • Davis Waste Removal 2727 2nd Street, Davis 756-4646 (Mon-Fri 9:30am - 2:00pm, Sat 8:00am - 4:00pm)
  • NexCycle, 1900 Anderson Rd., Davis (909) 796-2210

Step 8: Return your Clearstreams

After your event, return the event recyclers to the Public Works Department during your scheduled drop-off time. Clearstream Recyclers must be returned no later than two days after the event.

More information about borrowing the Clearstream Recyclers:

  • Clearstream Recycling containers are available on a first-come first-served basis, so the sooner you reserve the Clearstreams, the better your chances of having Clearstreams Recyclers at your event.
  • The Clearstreams Recyclers must be returned clean and without bags attached.
  • The Clearstreams Recyclers may be picked up no earlier than two days before the event and must be returned no later than two days after the event.
Make recycling successful and reduce waste at your event by following these tips:
  • Follow the “no can left alone” policy:
    • Place a recycling container next to every garbage can.
    • Never leave a recycling container on its own without a trash bin nearby—it will become contaminated with trash.
This makes recycling easy and obvious for everyone. If people have to search to find a recycling bin, they are more likely to throw their recyclables in the trash.
  • Use or encourage people to bring their own reusable cups, plates and utensils instead of paper, plastic or expanded polystyrene.
  • If reusable plates, cups and utensils are not possible, choose recyclable ones instead.
  • Place trash cans and recycling containers near where food or drinks are being served.
  • Collect and compost extra food wastes.
  • Clearly label trash, recycling and composting collection containers.
