Free Composting Classes
The City of Davis Recycling Program is offering free composting classes at the following locations and dates:
- Tuesday, February 28 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Public Works Corporation Yard, 1717 5th Street
- Saturday, March 3 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Community Chambers, 23 Russell Blvd.
- Monday, March 5 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Public Works Corporation Yard, 1717 5th Street
Classes will run 1 ½ hours. In addition to backyard composting, these classes will place a particular emphasis on simple, pest-free methods of composting food scraps. After attending a class, Davis residents can receive a starter set of composting worms for $5 and residents in single-family homes can receive a backyard compost bin for $10. The Public Works Corporation yard is located at 1717 5th Street between L Street and Pole Line Road. Please enter the yard through the 5th Street entrance. As you go through the fence, make a left into the yard and park along the fence-line where the parking spaces are marked “visitor parking.” The classes will be held in Building A. A large sign will be outside the Training room, near the visitor parking area.
