Garbage Information & Pick-Up Schedule
The City of Davis contracts with Davis Waste Removal (DWR) to collect trash, recyclables, yard materials and perform street sweeping within the city limits. Billing for these services is handled by the City's Finance Department.
Curbside residential garbage and recycling collection is an automated dual cart system. All trash and recyclables MUST BE PLACED inside the carts. The default sizes are one 95 gallon garbage cart and one 64 gallon split-recycling cart. At your request, different size trash containers are available (35 or 65 gallon) or/and additional trash carts are available for a fee. An additional split-recycling cart is available upon request at no extra charge.
Curbside trash and recycling is collected once a week. Collection begins at 7 A.M. Containers may be brought to the curb after 5 P.M. on the day before collection and should be removed by 7 A.M. on the following day. DWR operates on all holidays except Christmas and New Year's Day. Call DWR (756-4646) if you have any questions.
Place Carts:
- Wheels against the curb
- Opening facing the street
- 3 feet apart and 3 feet from parked vehicles
Please keep all yard waste piles, vehicles and other objects away from the front of the containers so the trucks can reach them. Do not block the bike lane or sidewalk.
Curbside Split-Recycling Cart
Each residential curbside recycling cart has 2 separate compartments. See Recycling Home for detailed information on what can and cannot be recycled.
Place paper and smaller cardboard pieces in one side and place plastic, glass bottles and cans in the other side. Cardboard boxes larger than 2 cubic feet should be flattened and placed next to the curb. Do not place trash inside the recycling cart.

Curbside Collection of Yard Material
Yard materials are picked up every week, Monday through Thursday. See the Yard Waste Pick-up and Street Sweeping Schedule below to find out what day your yard materials will be picked up.
- Place yard materials directly in front of your house, not across the street or around the corner from your house—it will not be picked up!
- Place your yard material 18” from the curb or gutter.
- YARD MATERIAL PILES SHOULD NOT BE LARGER THAN 5’ IN ANY DIMENSION.
- Do not block fire hydrants, driveways or stormdrain inlets with yard waste piles.
- Be aware that yard material piles can create serious hazards for cyclists; BIKE LANES SHOULD NEVER BE BLOCKED.
- Do not park on or drive over yard materials.
- Do not place yard materials in bags--bags may damage equipment and contaminate the load, thus producing a lower quality compost.
- Grass clippings should be placed loose in the street with other yard materials and should not be bagged or placed inside the garbage cart.
- Acceptable materials include grass clippings, brush, leaves, prunings, weeds, discarded floral displays, indoor plants and Christmas trees. Branches should not exceed 8 inches in diameter.
- Unacceptable materials include sod, soil, fruit, flowerpots, florists' wire, stumps, fencing, bricks, concrete, rocks, and wood.
Street Sweeping
Streets are swept every week, usually the day following brush pick-up. In order to take advantage of this service, please park your car off street on your sweeping day.
