Household Hazardous Waste Events
Specific Fridays and Saturdays throughout the year are designated drop-off days at the Yolo County Central Landfill. There is no charge to Yolo County residents. The facility is exclusively for household wastes, not hazardous wastes generated by businesses. All events will take place on Saturdays, 9 A.M. - 2 P.M., at the Yolo County Central Landfill.

Reusable Products Day
Many times residents turn in items at the household hazardous waste days that are still usable.
Come to the Yolo County Central Landfill during a household hazardous waste drop-off day to get free reusable household products like paints, cleaners, etc. Call the landfill (666-8729) for dates.
Landfill FAQ’s
What should I do with empty paint cans?Empty paint cans or cans with hardened paint can be placed in the garbage. You must remove all covers before you place them in the garbage. Liquid latex paint may be brought to the the landfill during business hours for recycling. Any liquid paint can be brought to one of the Household Hazardous Waste Events.
What should I do with propane tanks?
Empty propane tanks can be disposed of at your local propane gas vendor or brought to the Household Hazardous Waste Events.
What should I do with household batteries?
Alkaline batteries and nickel cadmium batteries can be recycled at various locations throughout Yolo County. Click here for free recycling locations in Davis. Please call (530) 666-8856 for other retail locations throughout Yolo County.
What should I do with fluorescent light bulbs?
Fluorescent light bulbs can be brought to the Household Hazardous Waste Events. Bulbs collected through the program are processed and mercury is recovered preventing release to the environment.
I am a resident in YoloCounty, what should do I with used insulin needles?
Place used needles in a puncture proof container such as a detergent container. Seal the container and label it NON-RECYCLABLE SHARPS. Place the container in the garbage or bring it to a Household Hazardous Waste Event. Do not place with recyclables.
If I am a business, can I participate in the HHW collection day for residents?
No. However, if you are a Small Quantity Generator, you can call (800) 433-5060 to make an appointment to dispose of business hazardous waste.
If I am moving and cannot wait for the next HHW day, what do I do?
Yolo County residents may utilize the City of Sacramento’s Household Hazardous Waste Facility. Call (916) 379-0500 for more information.
Is it safe and legal to take things from the landfill that I want?
No. It is neither safe nor legal to take things from the landfill. Permit regulations prohibit scavenging onsite and it can be dangerous for the public to try to scavenge illegally.
