John Barovetto Park Grand Opening Celebration

Barovetto Park Sign

John Barovetto Park, named for a Davis native who died in 1968 en route to secure a downed aircraft in Vietnam, will be dedicated Thursday May 24, 2007, during a Grand Opening Celebration starting at 5:30 p.m., and continuing to 7:30 p.m.

During the celebration, a variety of activities and events will be available for neighbors to enjoy. These events include: children’s arts, crafts and games, live music, a walk and talk with the city’s Wildlife Specialist, food and drink items, informational booths, and a short dedication ceremony (at 7:00 p.m.) with guest speakers..

After much anticipation and excitement, the Parks and Community Services department is delighted to announce that the City’s newest neighborhood park is open for public use. Located at 4400 Alhambra Drive, on the corner of Alhambra Drive and Arroyo Avenue, John Barovetto Park is a seven-acre facility and outstanding addition to the East Mace Ranch neighborhood.

This vibrant park is distinct with its space-age playground features and colorful shade kites that shelter the picnic facilities. Other park amenities include a soccer field, baseball field, multi-use field, basketball court, dog run, decomposed granite perimeter walking path, concrete bikepath, natural and landscaped areas, and restrooms.

A number of area neighbors participated in the Planning Committee and community meetings that led to the development of John Barovetto Park. This is a neighbor-planned park aimed at meeting the needs of the East Mace Ranch community. The Parks & Community Services department congratulates the community on the well-designed amenities and looks forward to planning future services and programs in the park.
