Dog Park Grand Opening Ceremony!
Toad Hollow Dog Park Grand Opening Ceremony!
After much anticipation and excitement, the City of Davis Parks and
Community Services Department is pleased to announce the official Grand
Opening Ceremony for the Toad Hollow Dog Park to be held on Saturday
April 30th, 2005, beginning at 12:00 noon. The Toad Hollow Dog Park,
located at 1919 Second St., east of L St., has been open for use since
mid-March and has proved to be one of the City's most widely used
amenities. The official Grand Opening Ceremony, however, was postponed
until April 30, 2005 to coincide with an SPCA fundraising dog walkathon that
takes place in the morning hours, prior to the noon-time Grand Opening
Ceremony. Festivities will include keynote speakers, a ribbon chewing
ceremony, off-leash fun, refreshments for humans and dogs alike,
information and giveaways.
The creation of the Dog Park was a result of more than five years of diligent work by City staff members, dog lovers, interested residents, the City Council and various City commissions. The Toad Hollow site was chosen because it is removed from residential neighborhoods, is centrally located, and has sufficient space and ample parking. Part of the core area drainage pond - west of the Pole Line Road overcrossing, the Dog Park is a fenced 2.5-acre grass area that was formerly used as a seasonal athletic field. The park is open daily from dawn to dusk and will be closed only if major maintenance is required or if the drainage pond is flooded with storm drain runoff.
All dogs using the park are required to be licensed and fully vaccinated. Dogs must be kept leashed except when within the fenced off-leash area. Signs stating additional user rules as well as hours of operation and conditions of use are posted at the site. Available at the park is a specialized drinking fountain fit for both humans and dogs. Shade trees grace the park's surrounding area and recently, several additional groves of trees were planted within the fenced area.
The Toad Hollow Dog Park has provided a much needed and long anticipated amenity to the community of Davis. For further information on the Dog Park or other off-leash areas, please contact the Parks and Community Services Department at (530) 757-5626
