West Nile Virus Update
8:00 AM August 10, 2006 Update
On Tuesday night August 8, 2006 at about 8:25 P. M. and on Wednesday night August 9, 2006 at about 8:45 P. M., the Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control District officials announced that they had begun spraying over Davis. Planes sprayed for a little over an hour on each evening.
Based on the recommendation of the District that "it is always a good idea to remain indoors and keep windows and doors closed during applications," the following Parks & Community Services Department programs were canceled, rescheduled or moved indoors on both Tuesday August 8 and Wednesday August 9:
- Adult Softball Leagues games Playfields Park
- Batting Cage (Walk-up hitting)
- Aqua Aerobics at Manor Pool
- Inner-Tube Water Polo at Arroyo Pool
- Tennis classes at all tennis courts
Residents and callers with questions should visit FighttheBite.net or contact the City Manager's Office at Davis City Hall at 530-757-5602.
The plane will fly at approximately 150 mph and release the product at approximately 300 feet. The swath width of the product is about 1300 feet, although the product can be offset up to 5000 feet, depending on weather conditions. The offset represents the distance required for the material to reach the intended treatment area from the application point.
It will take 60 to 90 minutes to complete the spraying for Davis. The spraying is likely to begin at about 8:20 pm. The plane is likely to fly east to west and make approximately 15 passes across Davis. The flight patterns are, of course, dependent upon wind and weather conditions.
